RYA Yachtmaster ocean theory

Theory course about celestial navigation and world weather systems for skipper who wants to do an ocean passage.

Using a GPS is good , but what are your options if your equipment or satellites does not work anymore ? Along the coast we can use radar or landmarks to find our position . On the ocean we can only use the heavenly bodies.

Assumed knowledge	RYA Yachtmaster shorebased certificate
Minimum age	18 years
Course content	how does a sextant works adjustment of a sextant find our position using the heavenly bodies position plotting (running fix) World weather systems developing of tropical storms avoiding tropical storms compass check with the sun
Certification	RYA /MCA Ocean shorebased certificate The certificate is delivered after a successful written exam at the RTC NCP school in Croatia Certificate of competence Yachtmaster ocean For the CoC yachtmaster ocean the candidate must take an oral practical exam with a RYA examiner . The exam candidate must has accomplished a nonstop ocean passage with 600 miles stop as skipper or first mate with the use of a sextant. The candidate must be involved with the passage planning , route planning, navigation, managing the material , equipment ,goods , water and food , organisation of watches. He / she must keep a log and position by using the sextant. The ship must at open sea during minimum 96 hours and stay away at least 50 miles from closest land.
Number of students	Minimum 2 - maximum 6 Private tuition is also possible on request
Minimum duration	40 hours + 3 hours written exam
